Bag the Bunny!

(Halle screaming in shear terror!)

(Will practically jumped out of Abbie's arms)

We thought it would be so fun to take the babes to meet the
 Easter Bunny.  Disaster!
They surley will need counseling.  And who can blame them?

This bunny looks like something out of a horrer movie.

Welcome Spring!

We had the best time at Wheeler Farm with Wills and Halle and Auntie Abbie!
The babies were very leary of the animals at first,
but they eventually warmed up to them-
as long as they weren't too close.
We are so ready for Spring!
And nothing says Spring like lots of baby animals.

My Three Sons

Here's what to expect when you raise teenage boys:
Broken bones
Lots of scapes and bruises
Windows that get turned into doors
Fire and gas and combustion
Crying girls
Tardies & Sluffs
Illegal Fireworks
Speeding tickets
Lots of noise
Too much silence
TP in trees
Eggs on house
Long hair/green hair
Messy rooms and endless piles of wet towels
Going through cases of cold cereal
Empty pop cans all over the house
Juice cartons used as glasses
Ruined furniture and walls
Tons and tons of hugs and kisses!

I adore my three sons!  I don't know what I'd do without them!

Not the Golden One!

There's nothing like the doorbell ringing late at night when your teenagers are out on the prowl. Tonight Jake  (aka the Golden One)had tons of friends over.  The house that was rocking and rolling became all at once silent and Nathan and I said- "I wonder where the kids went?" Then the door bell rang and we almost instinctively knew there was trouble.  (Seasoned parenting!) As it turned out, it wasn't the police but a concerned neighbor who said that the police were talking to Jake and his friends. With a long sigh, Nathan got up and got dressed and headed out. (I told him to grab a stack of business cards!)  To make a long story short, Jacob's group was outside and had seen some skater kids put a construction cone in the street, which a car hit, and then alerted the cops, who then wanted to talk to Jake and his friends.  It's all fine now but the thought of navigating through the next 3 years has given me a bit of ANXIETY!

 Pass the valium please!!!

Thank you Bubba!

The boys enjoyed a beautiful day of Spring Skiing
up at Deer Valley today!  They loved being
together in spite of very cold temperatures and snow flurries.
It's sooo Utah!

Keep it Simple

I love you
Please forgive me
I trust you
Let me help
I believe you
I'm so sorry
Count on me
Go for it
I understand you
I thank you
I forgive you
Yes you're right

What can you accomplish with three little words?

DREAD!

On the way to work today I heard that this weekend is the dreaded weekend of the year. The ending of daylight savings time.  UGH!!! That's the worst!  And even worst than worst- there's no one to blame.  I want to point my fingure and be mad at somebody but who?  It's not the government.  Not mother earth.  Not the kids or Nathan (who is usually the one I blame for all the un-blameables).
Litterally there is no one I can scowel at.
 That's why it's the worst!

My life with the boys...

Here's what my room looks like at 11:00 p.m. tonight.
The Simpsons followed by Family Guy-
Are you kidding me?

Ridiculous!

Related to the rich and famous!

Remember how I said Dustin was really awesome?  And that he works really, really hard?  Well here is validation for you.  This is the company that he works for and has been helping through it's development stages!  He practically owns the company!  (Just Kidding!!!! He doesn't own it but I wish he did so he could get me a free projector for the basement theater! Ours is broken.)

This article was in USA Today, today in the money section.  I am such a proud mommy-in-law.  I told you he was the best!

Happy Birthday Kenzie! I love you!

Need to vomit? Call me!

I got the funniest call from
 Abbie the other day.
 "MOM!
I NEED TO VOMIT ON YOU!"
I immediatly knew what was going on.  She was utterly and completly overwhelmed by life and she just needed to "Throw up" her junk!
Flattered, I carefully listened to all the stuff that was on her plate.

Too much to do, too little time, deadlines, midterms, papers, no car to
get her around, pain, fatique, the cold. It was all too much for one little girl up there alone in Logan, Utah. Of course there wasn't one thing that I could do except to listen,  which actually was all she needed!

The pros of arranged marriages

I love that Dustin is so over the top funny! He should have been a stand up comedian. He's one of those people that just catches you off guard and randomly makes you laugh.  Which is so great.  Who doesn't love an unexpected, out of no where, laugh!
I love that if there are desert options,  he opts for a "sampler".  He has a bit of a sweet tooth and sometimes just can't decide so he came up with this perfectly acceptable solution.
I love that he gets up and gives Halle her breakfast while you-know-who catches an extra few minutes of beauty sleep.
I love that he is a tease.  Whitney tells me the best stories about Dustin teasing his mom, Halle and her.  He keeps everyone on their toes.
I love how he keeps track of what is going on in the room when he's reading the paper by carefully peeking over the top of the paper without really looking up- (I know you're watching us!)
I love that he knows exactly what Whitney needs at any given time and he takes really, really, good care of her.
I love that he is such a good dad to Halle.  Yes, he teases her too, but she deals with it really well.  I think she really kind of likes it!
I love that he works so hard.  Traveling is tough on a guy but Dustin gets in there and gets the job done.  I do have to say though, Whitney is an extremly supportive wife.  I am really proud of the way they make it all work.  They are a great team.
I love that Dustin is such a good sport about family stuff.  We're (the Drage's) a handful and he is awesome at supporting our family in millions of ways.  I am so thankful to him for that!
I love that Dustin stands up for Whitney and is ALWAYS on her side.  He doesn't let anybody run over her.  She is his priority and her happiness always comes first.
I love the way he supports Whitney.  He finished putting her through school and made her graduation from the U of U possible, he supported her business ventures, he was awesome during difficult pregnancy days (actually months), and he maks it possible for her to do an awsome job in primary.  He does a great job of making her look good and visa versa.
I love that he is a true Blue Aggies fan!
I love that Dustin has their whole house wired to the max.  How many people can lay in bed and close their garage door.  He has Control 4 totally hooked up- or should I say Control 4 has them totally hooked up!  In any event, They have an awesome automated home!

I love Dustin so much.  I really couldn't have asked for a better son-in-law.  I am so happy that Dianne and Troy and I made the match!

Let them take their shoes off!

One sentence that all mothers overuse is
"DON'T TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF!!!"

I get it. As a mom you spend a lot of time finding shoes, putting shoes on, finding them again, putting them on again, etc. etc. etc.

But in the bigger scheme of things, it's REALLY not that big of a deal.
Let 'em take their shoes off.

Per Whitney's request

A couple of months ago, Whitney asked me if I would make her a book and talk about all the things that I have learned as a mother.  I am touched by her request.  She obviously thinks I have something of value to pass down, although I look at her and Kenz and think that they are so much further ahead in the mothering department than I ever was.  None-the-less, I have been reflecting on some of my theories and phillosifies that I tried to impliment while raising my family and thought I might use my blog spot to share them.

Disclaimer:  "I don't I think I am all that and a bag of chips!" Moms are human and they make mistakes. There are a million things that I wish I could do over.  But self forgiveness and embracing each new day as a clean slate go along ways in the mommy department.

So without further adieu, here we go!

It occured to me years and years ago that families are a little like tool boxes.  Each individual is just that... individual.  Their focus and purpose in the family is divinely unique.

The moment you start to trying to make one child act or perform like another, you are in for big trouble.  Children are so impressionable.  They need to be loved for just who they are and for what they contribute to the family as a whole.

Embrace differences!  It's the very thing that makes a family interesting.

My Tador

Funny things about Tador Bage...

When he was a toddler, he called me "honey", just like his dad did.
He has never eaten Peanut Butter- but he hates it!
He sold his toys to his younger siblings amd then charged them
to store them. (only a big brother could get away with that!)
He loved legos as a child and got them for every Chrismas & B-day.
In High school he'd keep his room clean w/o being asked.
He loves all types of puzzles!
He has the best laugh of anyone on the continent.
He was ultra cautious as a child and over-the-top daring as a teenager.
(see his arial skiing pictures, they'll freak you out!)
He adores his wife to pieces.
He speaks Spanish, but won't.
He is the best daddy to his little buddy Wills.
He is very fun to tease.
He is a lover of condiments.
He is his in-law's favorite child.
He is very good at everything
from Excel Spreadsheets to wiring a house!
He is a cyclist, skiier, wake boarder, water skiier,
bowler, guitar hero star, pianist, hacky sacker, stick tosser, back-packer,

He loves me ALMOST as much as I love him!

I totally scored!

I have the absolute best daughter in law.  We hit it off immediatly when we discovered our shared passion for fountain drinks.  With a solid foundation like that we were destined from the beginning to have a beautiful relationship. Here are some of her endruring qualities:

She absolutly adores my son.
If that was it, it would be enough but there is so much more!
She makes Taylor laugh and she takes him lunch at work.
She is THE best mom ever.  She loves her Wills like crazy.
She loves cooking for her boys!
She maks yummo carrot cookies and coconut cupcakes.
She is a cleaning fanatic (in a good way).  Their house is always clean!
She is an extemly hard worker.  Before Will she'd work 12 hours a day.
She appreciates the simple things in life.  She is not worldly at all.
She introduced us all to TJ Maxx, Ross and MPS. (Thanks a bunch!)
She offered to pay Jake $100.00 to wait till he was 16 to kiss a girl-
(I'm not telling how that one ended.)
She takes good care of her two younger sisters, Whitney & Abbie.
She treats me as if I were her very own mother and I am so thankful.

I love her as one of my own.

My new best friend

What happens when your daughter becomes a mother herself?  You suddenly develop a much deeper and much more meaningful relationship with her.  She becomes more of an equal, a friend, a confidant.

When I look at this particular picture, my eye is drawn to Whitney.  She is such a fantastic mother, a supportive and loving wife, a protective daughter, a loyal and wise sister, a  faithful and dedicated member of the church, a thoughtful friend and a talented blogger.  She is an inspiration to many- including me!

Beyond that, she is very accomplished:  A graduate of the University of Utah in Art History, a violinist, a pianist, a voracious reader, a great cook, frequent hostess, entrepreneur (Co-owner of Bitty Basics), again, Really there is very little she cannot do!

Fortunately for us, Dustin is traveling quite a bit right now and so we get to see Whitney and Halle a couple nights a week.  We all hang out and watch American Idol on our bed or we catch a bite to eat.  I am so thankful for this little bit of extra time together.  We both miss our "day" time together since I'm working so we embrace our evening time!

I am so blessed to have a daughter who has
become such a dear, beloved friend.
 I treasure our relationship!

You gotta love the bug!

She is so cute and smart and funny!

Here are some of her new talents-
She can show you her tongue. (If she feels like it)
She is learning how to sign and can sign:
DOG, ALL DONE & MORE, MORE, MORE
She waves goodbye.
She dances- and seriously, it's the cutest thing ever!
She claps her hands.
She immitates her cousin CoCo, recently picking up thumb sucking.
(Maybe CoCo will potty train early and Whitney will have it made!)
She twirls her feet & hands when she is happy to see someone.
She eats quesadillas, spagetti and pizza.
She holds the phone to her ear and says "Hi"
She loves her blankie and is starting to silk- where did she learn that?

It is so fun to see these little personalities developing!

They are my joy each and every day!

My funny!

I think this T-shirt is so blinkin' funny!
(I wish I could find a matching one for Curt!)

Will is the best because:
He makes the best Tiger noise of anyone I know.
He loves all kinds of food. And I mean ALL kinds.
He has the biggest crush on his momma- it is soooo adorable!
He says Nana when I talk to him on the phone and kisses the phone.
He rides a mean bull! (his dad's shoulders)
He loves to be thrown dangerously high in the sky.
He loves Shrek and Nemo.
He knows exactly were the cookies are in Gma Linney's pantry.
He loves to read.
He leads the future pack of Grandkids on both sides of his family-
I think he's just the perfect one for the job!

I love this little guy to pieces!

My naughty!

I fantasize about having another man in my life. In fact there are two that I am really interested in.  Don't get me wrong, I love my husband and everything, but there are a couple areas that I just need
a little extra help in.  First off-  since I started working the house just isn't as clean as I'd like it to be.
How great would it be to have a guy like Mr. Clean around!

Second- again, since I started working, I havn't had the time or the energy to exercise, so I havn't and I've gained a lot of weight which makes me soooo mad! I could really use Bob's help.  He seems really nice but tough too.  I think he could help me shave a few pounds off.

Of course I'd still keep my number one!
He just needs a little back up!

Some traditions die hard!

I totally remember getting toilet paper out of the storage room and sneaking out with friends to TP the houses of boys we had crushes on.  I'm not sure who the Einstein was that thought this was such a great idea, but 35 years later, it seems that toilet papering is still going strong!
(And don't our neighbors love it!)

We got toilet papered twice last weekend and while Jake
tried to blame it on Abbie's friends and then Curtis' friends-
we all knew he was the target of someones attention!

My proud for the day...

He's in! And I couldn't be prouder! Curtis got his admittence letter today from Salt Lake Community College.  He went down, took the placement test, met with a counselor and applied.  I think this is a great "next step" in his life and hope he loves going back to school!
Time to go shopping for a new backpack!

Princess #2

Everyone who has ever given birth to a girl thinks they have a princess in the family.  But unlike the masses, I really do!  In fact I have birthed two and inherited one!  Here are reasons that justify the title for Abbie:
First off, Abbie is really one of the nicest people I know. She NEVER misses an opportunity to reach out to another. She remembers birthdays, holidays, special days, and every-day days. She is a gift giver by nature. And not just any gift will do. All gifts are thoughtful and individual. And none are ever given with a return gift expectation.

Abbie is a role model to so many people. She relates and empathizes and yet stands firm in her beliefs. She has inspired many to reach a little higher and become a little more.  Abbie has a way of not being judgmental and genuinely loving others. It is a gift.

Abbie is the most fun to have around. She delights in the very simple things in life. Almost nothing gets past her notice. She loves life and she is quick to acknowledge each and every one of God's gifts. She ALWAYS sees the beauty of this earth and the beauty of every moment.

Abbie loves Anthropology, jewelry, the farmers market, traveling (she is part gypsy), book stores, her dad, movies, dancing, taking pictures, giving gifts, talking, telling stories, getting pedicures, coloring, make-up, boots, and Christmas, hot baths and spending time with family.
She is an amazing dancer and has stolen many a show!  And something most people don't know is that she scubba dives just like she dances. She is very graceful even with an oxygen tank on her back. Abbie faces a daily battle with her body. She is, and has been for years, in pain ALL the time, but she rarely complains.

As I mentioned above, Abbie is part gypsy. She Loves to explore and has become quite fearless on her journeys. I am amazed at the things she has done. (Ask her about sleeping in buddhist monasteries)

Abbie has always struggled with change. She was the child that would cling to, and cry as they hauled out an old sofa. She didn't want to leave 6th grade, 9th grade or 12th grade. That being said, she forges ahead embracing each new day and each new experience.

I love my Abbie with all my heart.  She has added so much joy to my kingdom!
